Hi, I'm Vanessa, Australian born but living in the Northern Hemisphere for over 20 years.
Always having a creative mind, I studied fashion manufacturing at East Sydney College. I was fortunate to get amazing work experience on "Home and Away", and CA Australia designing and creating patterns and samples for soft toys. My crocodile pattern found fame in Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo!
Like so many Aussies I got itchy feet, threw on my backpack and set off on an overseas adventure, seeing the world and eventually settling in Jersey. There, I met my husband, had my two gorgeous daughters and got back to my creative roots, starting my face painting business "Little Cheeks". This led me into the wider world of make-up artistry.
Following completion of formal training with Benton Makeup Academy in Dubai, where we lived for a few years, I began freelancing for special events and on photoshoots. After returning to Jersey I focused on wedding and special-occasion makeup and building my bridal portfolio.
Now settled in Mayo, I'm starting all over again!
My ethos
I'm a strong believer that makeup should enhance you, not mask you! So much of what we see about the make-up industry is based on celebrity looks or the latest crazy trends. It's great that social media has made it so accessible in terms of feeling part of the gang, or inspiring us to try new looks. I'm all for make-up being fun - I say go for it and have fun with it. You can always wash it off, right? Ultimately though, I think make-up should be about what makes us feel good. Beauty certainly comes from within and if we feel good, our make-up should amplify that.
The make-up and wider beauty industry is at our fingertips these days, with new brands and celebrity endorsements regularly announced and frequently pushed into our social media and even news feeds. We are bombarded with images of glamorous photoshoots which conveniently omit the hours and indeed days or weeks of prep work going into creating a single photograph, let alone mentioning the countless stylists involved and air-brushing, which is so frequently used, We cannot and should not try to compete with what we see online. The amount of times I get asked for 'flawless' skin! I understand we all want our skin to look as healthy as possible, but achieving this 'flawless' look is just not real. We all have fine lines and texture on our skin, so achieving this airbrushed look just isn't realistic.
I don’t believe this environment is particularly healthy for any of us, not least because I’m raising two young daughters. I want them to grow up loving the skin they have, imperfections and all. When I’m working, I strive to help my clients see their own true beauty, to feel good, and to be the most confident person they can be - whether that’s for your Transition Year Ball, your wedding or if you’re prepping to smash it in the boardroom! We’re. All. Beautiful.
My passion is to help you feel the best and most beautiful you can be, not because of fancy products, not because of air-brushing, but because if you feel good, you will look good. Let's take those celeb looks, play with it, and see what works for you. One size does not fit all. Regardless of how bold or reserved you want to be, I want you to remove your make-up at the end of the day full of the joy with which it began. Yes, I use good products, but what I do is the easy bit - the real beauty is within.
